Police: Hempstead man sexually abused child, stabbed 2 women
A Hempstead man accused of sexually abusing a 2-year-old girl and stabbing two different women – all on the same night – was held without bail after his arraignment Thursday.
Police say Tommy Alvarado-Ventura beat and sexually abused his girlfriend's daughter early Wednesday morning while her mother was at work.
He then allegedly went to El Mariachi Loco Bar in Hempstead, where he's accused of getting into a fight with a 24-year old woman about purchasing marijuana.
Police say Alvarado-Ventura then followed that 24-year old woman to a back parking lot where he stabbed her multiple times, puncturing her lung.
Authorities say Alvarado-Ventura then returned to his girlfriend's apartment. They say when the child's mother got home, she found her daughter beaten.
"When she approached and spoke to Mr. Ventura about those injuries, it was at that time that Mr. Ventura attacked that woman also, stabbing her multiple times and striking her repeatedly about her body," says Chief Stephen Palmer.
A woman who also lives in that apartment says she was home while it happened. She says the child had been bitten and that her face was swollen and bruised. She says the child's mother begged her not to call police because she was afraid Alvarado-Ventura would kill her family.
Police say someone in the apartment did call 911 and that officers arrested Alvarado-Ventura without incident at the apartment.
Authorities say Alvarado-Ventura is a known member of El Salvadorian gang MS-13 and has previously been deported four times for other arrests, including violating an order of protection against another woman.
Police say Alvarado-Ventura was not instructed by MS-13 to commit these crimes. He is facing multiple charges of attempted murder and child sex abuse.
Acting Police Commissioner Thomas Krumpter called the alleged crimes "unprecedented" and "nauseating."
"In 28 years, it's probably the most heinous criminal act I've ever seen," says Krumpter.
