Hanging cables installed on new Tappan Zee Bridge

Progress is being made in the construction of the new Tappan Zee Bridge with the latest installation of hanging cables.
The installation of the cables, which are used to support the center span, comes a month after a construction crane collapsed at the Rockland County end of the new bridge. That brought work to a halt and forced the closure of the old span too.
Drivers who use the bridge say they are amazed at how smoothly the work is moving along.
"It's been a pretty fast progression. It's pretty cool," says Paul Whitten of Tarrytown. "It causes a lot of traffic because everyone wants to slow down and look at it.
Despite the progress, there's still a lot of work to be done. Drivers are expected to be able to use the Rockland-bound side of the new bridge sometime next year.
