US carries out airstrike on Syrian airbase
The U.S. carried out a targeted air strike on a Syrian airbase believed to be housing chemical weapons used in an attack that killed more than 80 civilians.
U.S. war ships launched more than 50 Tomahawk cruise missiles off the coast of Syria Thursday, striking the airbase and killing at least nine people, according to officials.
President Donald Trump issued the order for the attack last night after denouncing the chemical attack earlier this week.
At least 80 people, including children, died in a chemical weapons attack on a Syrian village this week.
Russian officials issued a statement saying the airstrike was an aggression against a sovereign state and in violation of international law.
Russia has vowed to help rebuild the Assad regime airbase.
