Phase two of Pelham Parkway renovation hits bumpy road
The renovation of the Pelham Parkway has hit a bump in the road as concerns over the quality of work done in the first phase grows.
Members of Community Board 11 and residents say the renovations on the parkway that were completed in 2015 were not done well. Community board members hired the construction firm CAC Industries for the project and chose to stay with the company for phase two of the project, which is set to begin this summer.
However, residents say the parts of the roadway that were completed are crumbling and have holes that have been patched with tar. Community board members are trying to get the contract with CAC Industries voided, but have not been successful.
"The community board is very upset about this," says John Fratta, business coordinator for Community Board 11. "Had we known that they were going to use the same contractor we would've never even approved the plans."
Officials from the city's Department of Design and Construction say CAC Industries was selected because it had the lowest bid for the job.
