Parents: We weren't told about high lead levels at P.S. 289

Parents say they were not told about high lead levels at P.S. 289 in Crown Heights.
This comes after a New York Post report earlier this week revealing December test results that dangerously high lead levels in the school's drinking water.
But education officials say the water is fine.
"A letter with detailed information on the test results was backpacked home to families in January and was posted on the school's website along with the complete lab results," the Department of Education said in a statement. "Water in school is safe for students and staff to drink and we will continue to update schools and families."
Parents gathered outside the school Thursday afternoon demanding to know why they were never told about the contamination. Some said they pulled their kids from P.S. 289 until they are tested by their doctors.
One parents said the school is working to have a meeting on the subject next week.
