Best of the Bronx: Harry S. Truman HS offers media communications program
A Bronx high school is prepping its students for college with its media communications program, teaching students the fundamentals of media and videography.
Harry S. Truman High School is one of very few schools that provide students with a media program that offers the tools they need to produce and broadcast videos.
Students say the program has allowed them to expand on many things like PSAs, demo reels, and music videos.
Senior Matthew Malave says they’ve even done parody show remakes, including one of the “Golden Girls.”
News 12 is told that the school’s program has received positive recognition and awards over the years. The school is a member of the "Student Television Network,” and competes against other school's programs.
This year, media students at Truman will head to this year's convention in California.
Student Lester Robinson submitted a winning 30-second video, and he'll be one of only 12 students on stage at the convention in front of a crowd of 3,000 people.
Students will not only meet other high schoolers at the convention, they'll get to network with professionals in the field as well.
