23-year-old man shot to death in Canarsie
A shooting at East 96th Street and Glenwood Road in Canarsie left a 23-year-old man dead Sunday night, according to police.
They say they found Brooklyn resident Kester Anthony, whose friends called him Rich, with two gunshot wounds in his head around 9:30 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Anthony may have been involved in a dispute with two or three other men beforehand, and the shooting may have been gang-related. Investigators are seeking as many as four male suspects.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
Anthony, a new father, wanted to be a firefighter, according to relatives — although police say he had more than a dozen prior arrests, mostly for identity theft.
His mother, Deslyn Anthony, says her son had changed his ways after becoming a dad.
"He's my baby, my only boy," she told News 12. "I'm just heartbroken."
Friends set up candles Monday in his honor on the sidewalk where he died. Hours earlier, Anthony cleaned her own son's blood from the concrete.
