Grand jury to begin hearing evidence in Eric Garner police chokehold case

A grand jury will decide if criminal charges will be filed in the death of Eric Garner.
Garner, a 43-year-old father, died after being put in a chokehold by Officer Daniel Pantaleo on July 17. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, caused by a chokehold and compression of his chest.
The officer's lawyer says he expects it will take at least a month for the panel to reach a decision. He also says his client denies any wrongdoing.
Garner was being apprehended by police during the incident for allegedly selling untaxed, loose cigarettes.
