Cromwell-Jerome could be newest neighborhood in the Bronx

The Bronx may be getting a new neighborhood called Cromwell-Jerome.

The newest section is slated to be carved out of the existing Concourse neighborhood, transforming 57 blocks between the Grand Concourse and Highbridge into a residential and retail corridor.

The change is part of Mayor Bill de Blasio's "Housing New York" initiative aimed at expanding affordable housing, as well as transportation, economic development and open spaces.

The plan involves rezoning the area, which is currently a collection of auto shops and one two-story building.

The city will hold a series of community meetings this fall to get input from residents, with the next one scheduled for Sept. 30. Walking tours are also planned for October.
