Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund sends sisters Winnie and Emily Danz to college
Two sisters whose father died on Sept. 11, 2001 are now attending college thanks to a scholarship that honors victims of that tragic day.
Winnie and Emily Danz are students at Fordham University. They are at a school they may never have been able to afford if not for the "Families of Freedom Scholarship Fund."
The fund awards scholarships to children, spouses and domestic partners of people who were killed or permanently disabled on 9/11. The girls' father was in the NYPD emergency service unit and died during the 9/11 attacks.
They say their dad would be thrilled that they are both getting an education.
The scholarship fund has recently surpassed $100 million in awards handed out since the attacks.
It has helped more than 2,400 students pay for school so far, and it still has more than $90 million for future recipients.
