MTA makes plans for Labor Day travel
Residents traveling on Labor Day weekend can expect traffic on major roadways and bridges.
AAA reports that 86 percent of the nearly 35 million Americans traveling this weekend will travel by car, a nearly 1 1/2 percent increase from last year, so roads may be even worse. The MTA plans to suspend all bridge and tunnel construction from today until Tuesday to help out with weekend travel. Extra MTA trains and buses were added Friday to help commuters deal with the congestion.
The Whitestone Bridge will have one lane closed this weekend, so drivers should plan ahead and give themselves extra time. Residents say they aren't too concerned because there are multiple ways to get out of the borough.
The MTA says trains and buses will operate on their weekend schedules on Labor Day.
