Dietitian gives advice on packing school lunches

The first day of school is coming up and parents are advised to think healthier when packing lunches for their children.

A recent report from the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found most parents are not packing the healthiest lunches. The report found many parents were relying on high-calorie snacks and sweetened drinks.

Dietitians say parents should opt for fruit or something baked instead of sugary or fried snacks.

Parents are also encouraged to bring their children along to the supermarket with them to get them involved in picking out what they want to bring to school.
