Three contaminated Bronx properties are getting cleaned up with the help of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Rep. Jose Serrano announced that $300,000 in grant money from the EPA will be put toward properties that were used as dumping grounds for years, making them hazardous and unlivable.
Rep. Serrano says the EPA calls the unlivable areas "brownfields." He says the properties have been an ongoing issue in the borough.
The Brownfields Program is meant to clean up the area to the fullest before any rebuilding takes place.
Rep. Serrano says the grant money will also be used for new affordable housing.
The EPA will be working over the next few months to get the selected properties cleaned up.
