Mott Haven Community Center unveils new reading corner for children
A new reading corner was unveiled at the Mott Haven Community Center Friday to encourage the importance of reading.
ReadNYC says children who do not read at grade level by third grade are 70 percent less likely to graduate high school.
The reading corner is in the parents' room at the community center to encourage parents to read to their young children.
The foundation also distributed free books to children and donated 300 new books to the community center.
ReadNYC is an initiative that is part of United Way New York City, which made the Reading Corner possible.
