Officials: Bronx has 11 schools on list of most dangerous schools in New York state
New York City Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina says the city's Department of Education will take action after officials released lists of the most dangerous schools in the state.
The DOE published two lists, one with newly persistently dangerous schools, and the other with continuously persistently dangerous schools. Of the 47 schools listed as "persistently dangerous," 40 are located in the city.
The Bronx has 11 dangerous schools, second only to Brooklyn, which has 17.
The lists are based on violent and disruptive incidents reported.
"We're not in total agreement with some of the analysis the state has done," Farina says. "One of the things I have asked my leadership team is that all of us, within the first week of school, will be visiting every school on the list so we certainly expect to do a hands-on, on-the-spot evaluation."
