Free summer educational program offered at M.S. 101

A free summer program is putting education front and center during the school break.

Students from M.S. 101 are taking part for the first time in the Summer Quest program, designed to keep children engaged with learning during the summer months.

Schools are awarded grants to fund the additional classes, school trips and activities.

Organizers say the goal is to continuously develop the students' interpersonal, critical thinking and social skills.

This week, the middle schoolers are learning about immigration and designing computer presentations about their family backgrounds.

There are currently 60 students enrolled in program at M.S. 101.

The administration is seeing such positive results, they plan to double the enrollment next year.
