Some mom and pop shop owners are surprisingly not too worried about their businesses despite three new shopping centers making their way into the Bronx.

Stephen Kaufman, of the Throgs Neck Merchants Association, says he is concerned by the new influx of stores coming to the area. Some merchants, however, don't feel the same.

Wayne Baker, owner of Frank Bee Costume Center on East Tremont Avenue, says the new shopping centers will be good for the community as a whole. He feels they are going to bring more people into the area to shop.

Baker says he constantly needs to reinvent himself to keep up with the ever-changing community landscape. He also runs a party rental business to ensure that he makes enough money as the larger retailers move in.

The Target in Throgs Neck has been open for a couple of weeks. The new Bay Plaza Mall, anchored by Macy's, is set to open in about a month.
