Once-conjoined twins Clarence & Carl Aguirre celebrate decade since surgery
Two formerly conjoined twins are celebrating the anniversary of the successful surgery that separated them 10 years ago.
Clarence and Carl Aguirre, now 12 years old, were born attached by their heads. They got a new lease on life after the rare and extremely delicate surgery performed at Montefiore Medical Center.
Clarence and Carl were one of the first successful staged separations in the world.
Clarence is very outgoing and loves to dance and play video games. Carl cannot walk on his own and has a seizure disorder, but the two brothers are best friends.
The doctor who led the surgery says the chance of the boys surviving to 10 years old was less than 10 percent.
