A Bronx woman's life experience has inspired a mural that depicts the relationship between mothers and daughters.
The mural, called "Love Letters to our Mothers," was painted last year by a group of Bronx students who are first-generation Americans.
The mural symbolizes the struggles of trying to balance being born in America with parents born in another country.
The piece was inspired and organized by 25-year-old Rockyatu Otoo.
In 2007, a documentary, entitled "Bronx Princess," was made about her experiences growing up in the Bronx with a mother from Ghana.
A free screening of the documentary will air at the Bathgate Community Garden on August 6.
