A Bronx street has been renamed after an NYPD officer who died in the line of duty 10 years ago.
Ely Avenue, between Adee and Hammersley avenues, will now be called Sgt. Keith A. Ferguson Way. The street is where he grew up.
Ferguson's parents unveiled the new street name as friends and colleagues looked on. He was a 17-year veteran of the force and those who knew him say he loved being a police officer and was passionate about his job.
Ferguson suffered a fatal heart attack while running to assist another officer.
Ferguson's loved ones gathered at the Brooklyn Bridge for the annual Sgt. Keith A. Ferguson Memorial Run and Walk. Money raised from the event will go to a scholarship in his name that helps students studying criminal justice.
