Local artists create colorful work under I-87 overpass in Mott Haven
Members of a local merchants association are doing what they can to spruce up a neighborhood with unique artwork.
Five pillars have been transformed by local artists under an overpass on Lincoln Avenue and 135th Street.
The art is funded in part by the Citizens Committee of New York City. It's to help spruce up Mott Haven by inviting the artists, but also fixing the lights in the area and mulching tree beds.
"It's part of an overall strategic plan that we have in the neighborhood of having bike racks put in, benches, a modified bus shelter for the Bronx 15 bus stop, just as a way to make Mott Haven more of a home," says Michael Brady, of the Mott Haven Merchants Association.
