Kingsbridge Road shops face increased rent, possible closure amid building of ice skating center
More than a dozen mom and pop shops on Kingsbridge Road say they may be forced to close soon.
Tenants say a new landlord is starting to double their rents because the Kingsbridge Armory is reopening as a huge ice skating center in a few years, and property values are already starting to skyrocket.
Though some store owners agree that the armory renovations will help improve the neighborhood and bring jobs and new businesses, they say it's not fair for them to be pushed out after years as staple institutions.
The owners say they are in talks with the management company and hope to come to some kind of an agreement in a meeting with them next week. News 12 The Bronx did leave a few voice mails for the management company, but is still waiting to hear back.
