Summer heat sparks demand to curb crime in the Bronx

Summer heat usually means an increase in crime, and residents in the Pelham Parkway Houses say something needs to be done about it.
Councilman James Vacca says he discussed a shooting that happened at the complex just this past Sunday with the local police. He says more cops need to be patrolling the area.
Some residents at the houses say there are some other solutions that they think would make a big difference, like creating more opportunities for the people that live there. One resident wants to see money invested in activities like art and music classes.
"We don't have anything for anyone out here to do, so when we have spare time we spend it out on the street. It leads to things that maybe wouldn't happen if we had some recreation centers," one resident said.
