Parks Department shuts down Grant Park in Concourse due to structural problems

The Parks Department has shut down Grant Park in Concourse while the city assesses how much it will cost to repair the park.
Local residents say Grant Park was officially shut down in May and that garbage has piled up inside the park since. Structural problems are to blame, with park gatekeeper Troy Lancaster counting at least six sinkholes on the basketball court and playground.
The Parks Department says it is aware of the problems. Jose Rodriguez, of Community Board 4, estimates the price tag for repairs could easily reach into the millions.
City Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson said in a statement, "I have already reached out to the Parks Department to urge their swift action to remedy what are unacceptable conditions, and I will continue to work with the department to ensure that these needed repairs are expedited."
