Students in the Bronx can now call themselves published authors.
Poems written by a fourth-grade class at Christ the King School have been published into a book, with their names and own words for the world to read. A substitute teacher inspired the students to write about where they come from after reading to them the book "De Donde Vengo Yo," or "Where I'm From."
The author of "De Donde Vengo Yo," Nancy Arroyo Ruffin, wound up reading the students' responses and paid for them to be published into a book. The book will be available on Amazon soon, with all proceeds going right back to the school.
Principal Tara Braswell says she wants to make poem writing part of the curriculum from here on out.
