Bronx students launch handcrafted vessel in Hunts Point as part of ‘Rocking the Boat’ program
A boat, handcrafted by a group of Bronx students, is making its maiden voyage from the waters off Hunts Point.
A group of 12 high school students put in months of hard work during a program called "Rocking the Boat."
The nonprofit group works with students after school and teaches them everything they need to know to build a wooden sea craft. The organization says it aims to help students develop self-confidence and set ambitious goals.
The boat is making its voyage from Riverside Park up to Marina Del Ray in Throgs Neck.
The boat is being purchased by local businessman Bill Endico. All the profits will go toward sponsoring future boat-building and environment education programs.
