Ronald McDonald House Charities HACER Scholarship awards 3 Bronx students with $16,000
A total of 17 tri-state area Hispanic-American teens were awarded scholarships toward college Monday during a ceremony at Yankee Stadium.
Fernando Fernandez was one of three teens from the Bronx that won a $16,000 scholarship. He will be attending the University of Pennsylvania to study business and international relations in the fall.
"You never know what's going to happen until you try," Fernando told News 12 about winning the scholarship.
The scholarship money comes courtesy of the Ronald McDonald House Charities HACER Scholarship Fund, which has paid out close to $7 million to 1,000 recipients over the past 27 years.
The charity was started by a group of New York Metro McDonald's franchise owners.
