Mayor appoints regional superintendents
(01/27/03) CITY HALL - On Monday, Mayor Bloomberg continued his overhaul of the city's school system. He appointed 10 regional superintendents to oversee schools in the five boroughs.
The ten "regional" superintendents will oversee classroom instruction through work in 10 different divisions. Their main responsibility will be to address the problems in city schools and come up with ways to fix them.
The new superintendents will report to Diane Lam, the Department of Education's deputy chancellor of teaching and learning. They will all be based downtown at Department of Education headquarters. The ten officially begin work July 1.
