Co-op City building workers may strike

(07/16/03) THE BRONX - Co-op City building workers may go on strike by the end the month. The union representing the workers voted Wednesday in favor of a strike.

More than 500 hundred porters, drivers and floormen could walk off the job if River Bay Corporation does not meet their demands.

The workers want a 3-year contract that gives them salaries and benefits equivalent to building workers in other boroughs. They have been working without a contract since May 31.

Union leaders say they will try to get River Bay management back to the bargaining table before a decision to strike is made.
