Mayor makes good on promise to seniors

(07/17/03) SOUNDVIEW - Mayor Michael Bloomberg is making good on a promise he made to Bronx and city seniors by finding the financial means to keep more than a hundred senior centers open.

The New York City Housing Authority has stepped in to help the senior centers, which were in jeopardy of being shut down due to the city's budget troubles. In addition, the mayor announced a new initiative to raise awareness about city services for caregivers.

Caregivers citywide are entitled to counseling, support groups and training, and help with respite care.
