Pataki may veto water filtration plans
(07/18/03) NORWOOD - As the deadline approaches for Governor Pataki (R-NY) to either sign or veto plans to put a water filtration plant in the Bronx, local officials are working to make sure the deal will benefit the borough.
Environmental activists and local and state officials have been at odds for months over whether to build a water filtration at the Mosholu Golf Course in Van Courtlandt Park. State lawmakers have proposed giving the Bronx approximately $240 million to rebuild parks in exchange for housing the plant.
Meanwhile, until an agreement is reached, the Department of Environmental Protection is being fined daily by the federal government.
