BX man struck by car laid to rest

(07/18/03) THE BRONX - The Bronx man who was killed by an alleged drunk driver earlier this week was laid to rest Friday. Now, the family of David Torres wants the driver behind bars.

Police say Torres was killed after he was struck by a car while crossing Co-op City Boulevard and Bartow Avenue. According to police, the driver, David Reed, was drinking and driving. Reed has been charged with DWI and vehicular manslaughter.

Torres was a transit union worker for 15 years and was remembered as a great father. He leaves behind three sons.

Family members say they will do their best to make sure Reed is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
