Conditions at Elder Ave. building subpar

(07/20/03) THE BRONX - Residents inside a Bronx apartment building located on 1105 Elder Avenue are fed up with their living conditions. They say they're not getting any of their questions answered.

Extention cords everywhere, exposed wires, leaky faucets, chipped paint and rats. These are just some of the problems Mildred Galarza and her family have to live with everyday.

But Mildred is not alone. Other residents in the building say've their been living in deplorable conditions for years. They say they're getting tired of being neglected by their super and their landlord.

Tthe city's Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) has issued 82 violations to the building's owner. A spokesperson for HPD says they took the landlord to court and a judge ruled the landlord would have until the beginning of August to have all 82 violations fixed.

The super told News 12 The Bronx he acknowledges the building's problems and said the landlord is quick to reponse to repairs.
