Pataki approves BX water filtration plant
(07/22/03) THE BRONX - Late Tuesday night, Governor George Pataki approved plans to build a water filtration plant under the Mosholu Golf Course. Pataki previously threatened to veto the bill, and said that he wanted more say in the decision-making process.
New York City Mayor Bloomberg was set on having the plant built in the city rather than in Westchester. He said that putting it anywhere else would cost the city thousands of jobs. After Governor Pataki approved the legislation, Bloomberg said the plant would allow the city to meet the environmental protection mandate.
Opponents, however, said construction in the Bronx would cause environmental and noise pollution.
Now that the plant is being built in the Bronx, the borough will receive more than $200 million.
