City's 311 call center a success
(07/22/03) THE BRONX - The city's 311 call center has been up and running since March and already more than a million residents have used the number.
Officials say it's no surprise because the number was intended to help Bronx and city residents get answers by simply dialing one number. In the past, residents would have to search for each city department's number to get answers.
Questions ranging from garbage pickup to where to get a marriage license can all be answered by dialing 311. Mayor Bloomberg says government should be there to help people and that's exactly what the 311 system is doing.
The 311 call center is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
