Klein meets with BX education leaders

(07/24/03) THE BRONX - Schools Chancellor Joel Klein met with Bronx education leaders to discuss what parents and educators can expect this coming school year.

Klein says he is aware that parents are concerned about the many changes that will be implemented this year, but believes people will be pleasantly surprised when classes get underway.

One of the big changes is the revamped school district system. There will now be 10 regional districts instead of the 32 school districts that had existed. Another change is the creation of parent support centers. Klein says schools will also be getting more funding for certain resources such as new books.

Despite Klein's comments, Bronx educational leaders say they are still concerned about English as a Second Language classes, school safety and class size.
