Co-op City workers hit bargaining table
(07/25/03) CO-OP CITY - One week after Bronx members of Local 32-BJ in Co-op City authorized a strike, there has yet to be a walkout. Building workers and officials from the Riverbay Corporation hit the bargaining table Thursday for the first of three meetings set for the next two weeks.
The workers want a three-year contract that gives them salaries and benefits equivalent to building workers in other boroughs. They have been working without a contract since May 31.
Riverbay officials say the workers are demanding unreasonable wage increases and benefits. Still, they are hoping to settle all these issues and get a new contract through this series of meetings.
