Bronx residents rally for jobs

(07/28/03) THE BRONX - Unemployed Bronx residents rallied Monday in an effort to convince city officials to allocate money towards creating more jobs.

Residents are urging Mayor Bloomberg and Governor George Pataki (R-NY) to consider being part of the Liberty Jobs Program as a way to help bring jobs to their borough. The residents are upset because the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation is spending federal funds to build housing in Lower Manhattan instead of helping the unemployed.

Bronx residents say it's fine if the money is used for the city but they want to benefit as well. Protesters say they want a series of public meetings set up to discuss how the money is being used.
