Police alcohol bust closes down bodega

(07/29/03) MORRIS PARK - An undercover police sting helped close down a bodega where the storeowner allegedly sold alcohol to minors.

NYPD officers said underage Bronx auxiliary police officers went undercover and were able to buy beer at the Stop One Food Market on Morris Park Avenue. The officers were able to successfully purchase alcohol three times. The bodega was issued summonses and then finally shut down. The owner of the store would not comment to News 12 The Bronx.

The bodega will be closed until at least Friday. That is when the owner will make a court appearance to try and get his store reopened. If he is denied his request, the bodega could stay closed for up to a year.

Many Morris Park residents said this bodega has been a problem in their community since it opened. They are thrilled that the NYPD listened to their complaints.
