Teen at BX homeless shelter slashed
(07/31/03) MELROSE - Police say a 16-year-old girl staying at a homeless shelter in the Melrose section of the Bronx was slashed in the face by the home's director.
According to the police, Arsenio Gonzalez, director of the Ruth Fernandez Family Residence, slashed Kwanisha Smith, 16, in the face with his keys. Smith, who says she was sitting on a car in front of the shelter when the incident happened, was taken to Lincoln Hospital where she received stitches.
Gonzalez was later taken into custody by police.
Residents at the home say they are not surprised by what happened. They say Gonzalez has been abusive in the past.
