Soundview adult ed program in jeopardy

(08/06/03) SOUNDVIEW - A successful adult education program in Soundview is danger of closing if administrators do not find a way to come up with additional funding.

The program called Even Start helps adults get an education. English as a Second Language and GED classes are just two of the offerings provided at Even Start. Adults can also receive family counseling.

But since the courses are free, the program relies on grant money from the State Department of Education. The grant money is set to run out and the program's renewal application was denied because the state says the data was incomplete.

Even Start administrators are trying to find alternate funding through city or private grants. The program will be forced to close by August 15 if administrators can't rectify the paperwork problems or come up with funding from another source.
