St. Barnabas monsignor laid to rest

(08/07/03) WOODLAWN - Parishioners from St. Barnabas Church and all over the Bronx packed into the church's high school auditorium Thursday to remember a beloved monsignor.

Monsignor Francis Toner, who was a pastor at St. Barnabas, was remembered as someone who was compassionate and understanding. His parishioners admired his character.

Fellow priests say Monsignor Toner's death is a great loss. Not only did they lose a great priest but also a great friend.

In addition to his work at St. Barnabas, Monsignor Toner worked in the Bronx at St. Brendens and at the Holy Rosary Church.

Monsignor Toner was buried at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhallah.
