Summer school students badly fail exams

(08/09/03) THE BRONX - Many of this year's summer school students in the Bronx have badly flunked their Math and English exams.

Citywide, numbers show 58 percent of summer school students from grades three through eight did so poorly on their English exams, that they are considered functionally illiterate. Math scores were worse, with 66 percent of students scoring at level one.

The results mean many Bronx students will have to repeat a grade come September.
