Spraying for West Nile in some BX areas
(08/12/03) COUNTRY CLUB SECTION - Weather permitting the city will begin spraying parts of the Bronx to combat the West Nile virus. Four pools of mosquitoes with the virus were found so far in the borough this year.
The area scheduled for spraying is in the Pelham Bay area and is bounded by the Hutchinson River Parkway to the West, the Hutchinson River to the North and East, and Middletown Road and Watt Avenue to the South. Also scheduled for spraying is a green area (non-residential) between the Hutchinson River Parkway and the Bronx Psychiatric Center.
The spraying will be done between 8 p.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday.
This is the first time this year the city is conducting ground spraying in the Bronx. While it goes on, people with asthma or respiratory conditions should stay inside. If you are exposed to pesticides you can wash them off with soap and water.
Outdoor toys and furniture can be washed as well. Also be sure to keep your pets inside during the spraying.
