BX group gives Orchard Beach an A+
A new report finds that Orchard Beach has become a lot cleaner over the years.
The Bronx Council for Environmental Quality found that Orchard Beach went from being a beach that posted pollution advisories 56 times in 2001, to a beach that has been open every day in 2003 with no problems.
Although water quality at Orchard Beach is clean, the group feels the city should still step up its water testing operation. The group believes water quality at area beaches should be tested every day, instead of the once a week federal mandate.
Environmentalists say water should also be tested for e-coli, which is not currently done by the health department.
