Orchard Beach reopens following blackout

Orchard Beach has been declared safe for swimming.

Last week's blackout forced city health officials to close all beaches for fear that raw sewage leaked into the water. The Department of Environmental Protection has been testing the water every day since the power outage and says it's clean.

In addition to Orchard Beach, Rockaway Beach and Jacob Riis Park Beach, both in Queens, are open. All other city beaches remain closed.
