Future of Sheridan Expressway up in the air
The state is weighing different options for what to do with the Sheridan Expressway.
The New York State Department of Transportation has completed a review of the 1.2 mile expressway. In the review, the DOT pinpoints ideas for what to do with the Sheridan.
One thought is to tear down the expressway and make a park, which is a proposal that some Bronx advocates support. Another idea is to extend the highway into the Hunts Point Market by adding on and off ramps from the Bruckner Expressway.
Construction of the Sheridan was completed in 1962. It was designed to link the Cross Bronx with the Bruckner.
