City welcomes new class of teachers

The newest class of city school teachers attended orientation at Madison Square Garden.

More than 9,000 new city teachers were welcomed to the city school system Wednesday. Among the group were the teachers who will be heading to the Bronx. All are aware of the challenges they face trying to improve Bronx schools.

The teachers say they are excited for the new school year and look forward to getting in the classroom.

The Department of Education says there are still vacancies in New York City schools. Approximately 900 spots need to be filled before September.
