City Council wants NYPD to crack down on law breaking truck drivers

Environmentalists say commercial trucks in residential areas can be a health hazard.

Trucks in the South Bronx have been a major issue for years. Now, City Council members have petitioned the police commissioner to increase the number of agents in the Bronx who are authorized to write tickets to truck drivers. Some agents are only allowed to write parking tickets.

The City Council says the new budget calls for 300 new agents to be hired in the NYPD. Council members hope at last half will be assigned to writing tickets to law breaking truck drivers in the South Bronx.
