Bronx residents participate in 'Anti-Violence Day' picnic in Soundview Park

(08/30/03) SOUNDVIEW - Bronx residents are remembering Martin Luther King's "I have a dream" speech by celebrating his teachings of non-violence. Dozens gathered for a picnic in Soundview Park Saturday to rally for peace.

Volunteers handed out pamphlets on ways to prevent gun violence and domestic abuse. With free food in hand, the crowd braved the threat of rain to hear speeches by community and religious leaders. The event was also a job fair, where people could pick up listings and applications. Some unemployed Bronx residents said they sorely needed something like this.
